HCA Hospital’s Results with AvaSys Featured in Leading Clinical Journal
In the November/December issue of the journal Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare, senior nurse leaders at HCA St. David’s North Austin (Texas) Medical Center explore a successful adoption of the AvaSys® Telesitter® Solution. The print version of the journal is read by more than 20,000 healthcare executives, directors of quality, nurses, physicians and risk managers. Its website has 24,000 monthly visitors. The November/December issue will be distributed to more than 5,000 attendees of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care December 7-10, 2014, in Orlando, Fla.
Jane McCurley, RN, DNP, MBA, St. David’s CNO; and James Pittman, RN, MSN, associate CNO, write in the article that virtual sitter technology has enabled their hospital to greatly expand the population of patients being monitored, reduce fall rates and avoid $50,000 in labor expense. “It is important to note that zero falls with injury have occurred since implementation of (AvaSys),” they write.
The implementation process, including IT integration, was smooth, they write. “The system was near ‘turn key,’ and required minimal resources to initiate. The manufacturer provided resources, including job descriptions and educational tools for the monitoring technicians, as well as policies and protocols, which we tweaked based on our organizational culture and needs.”
